Beaumont-Wilshire is a quaint urban neighborhood in NE Portland. It borders Cully to the North at Alberta Court, Alameda at 33rd and 47th Avenue at Rose City Park to the East. Beaumont-Wilshire is a mix of residential and commercial with Beaumont Village as the main shopping district for the neighborhood. You’ll find older Portland homes from Tudors and Dutch Colonials, to Foursquares, Bungalows, and Ranches. The neighborhood is made up of roughly 2,200 households and of those 87% own their homes. Beaumont Village is experiencing a boom in development right now. New construction with apartments and more retail are shifting the neighborhood vibe from quiet community shopping district to a bustling urban enclave.
By Bus, Car or Bike
Beaumont-Wilshire is easy to get to from downtown Portland and other parts of the city. TriMet Bus #24 travels East and West on Fremont and will take you straight through Beaumont Village. The #24 operates as a commuter line and only operates Monday through Friday. The #75 will take you North-South on 42nd Avenue at Fremont. If traveling by bike, you can ride safely on any of Portland’s bike routes through Beaumont-Wilshire. Fremont is a pretty narrow street and can be pretty busy during rush hour.
Where to Eat and Shop in Beaumont-Wilshire
Beaumont Village is a great destination for quick bites, breakfast, wine, and coffee. There are a few places to shop for anything from shoes and cards to tchotchkes. Neighborhood mainstays include Amalfi’s where you can have a pizza, Italian meal and some yummy cocktails in a casual and fun environment. Another staple is Jim & Patty’s Coffee. Still great coffee and sour cream coffee cake years after Coffee People. Pip’s Original serves up delicious mini doughnuts with not to be missed flavors like Nutella and candied maple bacon, plus a chai flight that’s out of this world. Batter opened in the last few years as did Little Griddle both yummy spots for breakfast.
If you like beer, head to Alameda Brewing Co. and for wine, cheese, and outdoor seating, Blackbird Wine Shop & Atomic Cheese Shop is a perfect spot. For yummy Mexican fare and margaritas, try Cha Cha Cha, and for a Thai curry and cocktails, head to Bang Bang. The new kid on the block, Prince Coffee serves up luscious stroopwafel, gluten-free goodies, respectable coffee, and iced matcha.
For light shopping you can head to the Arrangement for cards and gifts, Adorn for women’s clothing and accessories, and Amenity Shoes for shoes you won’t find anywhere else.
