Woodlawn is a historic Portland neighborhood in NE Portland and has just what you need. Woodlawn borders Columbia Boulevard to the North, Ainsworth to the South, Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to the West, and 22nd to the East. This quiet area of NE Portland is a mix of single-family homes, industrial, and has a small but growing business district on Dekum street known as the Dekum Triangle. Woodlawn is a great neighborhood filled with a range of home styles including Victorians, Craftsman, and ranches. You’ll find some apartment buildings like the 13 Dekum but not as many as in other Portland neighborhoods. There are a few great parks and the Woodlawn Park Amphitheater, plus a community garden. It’s one of Portland’s more affordable neighborhoods with median home prices coming in around 400k. The neighborhood is family-friendly, is a great place to start looking for first-time homebuyers, and is close to all that Dekum and NE Portland has to offer.
By Bus, Bike or Car
Woodlawn is easy to get to from other parts of the city by bus. Jump on the TriMet #8 or #75.As with most of Portland’s east side neighborhoods, bike routes are ample on the streets in and around Woodlawn. Driving to Woodlawn is easy via Martin Luther King Boulevard and parking in the neighborhood is manageable.

The majority of residents own their homes with only 34% of households renting. Many households have been in the neighborhood for decades. There has been an influx of buyers in Woodlawn in the last few years because the median home price comes in a little bit lower than other NE neighborhoods. Woodlawn, more specifically Lombard and Columbia are heavily industrial areas.

You could easily spend an afternoon on Dekum. For coffee and yummy pastry, check out Woodlawn Coffee & Pastry. For brunch or a few organic groceries try P’s & Q’s market. For locally sourced pizza hit Good Neighbor Pizzeria, and for pub fare + brew, try the Breakside Brewery, Oregon Public House, and Firehouse Restaurant. If you’ve never had a tamale at Tamale Boy, you’re missing out.
Community Events in Woodlawn
Woodlawn residents love their neighborhood and strive to build community bonds. The farmer’s market is about to open (May 19th) which is worth checking out. And though it’s run has ended Trek in the Park (Star Trek open-air episodes) originally started in Woodlawn Park and was featured in an episode of Portlandia.
